Paper Towel (3-fold type) Dispenser

Completion date: March 23, 2019 I need a paper towel dispenser!  There seemed to be products out there that do the job, but my consideration are as follows: 1. They are usually adhesive types.  I don't like my walls taped. 2. They are big. 3. They are not that cheap on Taobao (RMB$70) 4. I don't see them around in local stores.  Most of them are the roll-type that are available. My requirement: 1. Minimalist design, and more environmental-friendly 2. Paper level visible Material: If I had a choice I would make a plastic model, but plastic is not very accessible to me.  So, I decided to make one from carton. Let me show you my first version of the dispenser.  It has been used, maybe for over half a year.  You just need to cut a slit and the bottom and clip the top to a hanger.  Well, the problems: 1. You cannot hang the pack when it is full, because there isn't space for the clips. 2. The plastic bag sags out of shape when you get to the last inch of the

Children’s playing mat

Completion date: March 17, 2019 Another home improvement. We don't have a place for the playing mat at home. We have been carrying the mat to and fro our bedroom/living room everyday. I was talking to my maid the other day and she thought this (see photo) place under the window would be a good fit for placing the mat!  Genius! 2 pieces of wrapping twine 2 x suction hooks ($12 for 3 hooks @ AEON Living Plaza) Here was how I hooked the mat up, on the window sill.

Full length mirror

Completion date: March 12, 2019 Due to safety reasons, I unwrapped the packaging after a week of hanging.  However, I did add something ("corner" made of carton) to the back of the hooks...an attempt to stop the hooks from coming off if someone did move the mirror. Completion date: March 16, 2019 All right, this is exciting!  My first time on drilling a hole in the mirror!  I have never drilled on tile/glass/mirror before.  I asked the Taobao supplier, whether the hand drill (crank-type) I bought could drill through glass, and the answer was a flat "no".  I was a bit hesitant, but from researching on the web told me that drilling on glass only requires 400 rpm, that's about 6-7 revolution per second.  I could do that.  I bought the carbide drill bit yesterday from hardware store, then went to IKEA to buy the mirror. Things bought for this Project LUNDAMO mirror: 20cm x 120cm Weight: 2.05kg Price: HK$60 (on sale!) Carbide drill bit 5mm:

New equipment acquired: March 15, 2019 I am preparing a new project working with mirror.  So I bought this carbide drill bit.  Just going to try to see if I can drill a hole on the mirror first.

Organizer for charging cables

Completion date: 15 February 2019 I wanted a charging cables organizer long ago. I have been dropping my cables on the floor after using them, and searching them on the floor every night.  I bought the 9-pack wire organizer $20 at Japan Home. I still bought it even the organizers are not ideal (the side coverage is too short), because I couldn’t stand the thought of buying from Taobao again for such a trivial accessory.  Originally I only planned for wood block with the wire organizers only, however the wire organizers turned out to be a total failure, so I had to add piece of plastic to complete the project.  What I did: 1. Cut a piece of wood (just the width of a ruler) 2. Stuck the wire organizers onto the wood 3. Cut out 8x12cm plastic from file folder.  Folded like so.  4. Fixed the plastic on the wood so the markings can be made 5. Punched 4mm hole on the markings 6. Cut a vertical straight line all the way
