Hairpin organizer

Completion date: November 2017 I was growing my hair long and needed hairpins to hold up my hair if I tie it up. As there was no table near the basin, I found another way to put my hairpins.  This solved a number of problems, This saves the trouble of getting my pins from my room, then to the washroom, and vice Versa.  The hair ties are easier to pick up then they are on the table.  The hairpins are also easier to pick up individually as they are not on top one another.  I can also hang my hairdo tool too.  I must say I got this idea from Pinterest, and I have modified it with suction cups and beautiful masking tape.  So what I did was... Cut up a 2mm thick cardboard Cut a piece of magnetic stripe Take a 1.5-inch thin masking tape, and wrap around the cardboard with the magnetic stripe. Note to wrap with the tape slanted.  Punch 4mm/5mm holes to the sides.  With the suction up hooks pointing 45 degrees away from each other (upwards), install the

Holder for slippers

Completion date: June 2018 Sometimes my slippers fell down from the shoe rack and got caught at the back against the wall.  It's quite troublesome to get them back.  I need to do something to get my slippers in no time.  There are a number of products out for the slipper storage: pockets that hang behind the door, and individual slipper racks (adhesive to stick to wall). I didn't want neither of those. Pockets-behind-the-door are way up high to nose level, it might smell... and neither do I have space to house these individual slipper racks on the wall.  I just need to put them up, where the shoe boxes are... I cut 2 slits on a shoe box. I have a long hard round straw (you can also cut up a ballon holder stick). Then I cut up a piece of nylon ribbon (from cake shop).  So here was what I did:  Threaded the ribbon through the hard straw With the hanging straw outside of shoe box, put the ends of the ribbon into the slits Then tied the ribbon between th

Water droplet collector on a U-pipe

Completion date: Q2 2018 Another home improvement. The pipe above the washing basin has been dripping drops of water (I hope!) occasionally ever since I moved in.  Over the years it became more frequent. Disgusting: I get drops of water on my head/hair while washing my face (ugh).  I recycled a sundae ice cream cup, 2 pieces of nylon ribbon (from cake shop), and 4 paper clips. I punched holes to the cup. This was the first version. 2 problems: The paper clips started rusting very soon.  It took time to hook the cup back up to the paper clips after dumping the water.  🤔🤔🤔 So I replaced the paper clips with colorful plastic binder rings. The binder rings loop through the sundae ice cream cup lid, and the cup sits in the lid.  Now, the user just need to take the cup out to dump the water and put it back.

Clothes rack fix

Completion date: January 14, 2019 Version 3: The thing with this kind of clothes rack is that it is collapsible. However, there isn’t a mechanism to lock these pipes in place. The parallel pipes come off every single day. Now the situation is improved with the new wheels, as the wheels are now moving in sync. Nonetheless, pipes are still coming off if we have the heavy laundry basket on the rack.  My first attempt to this is with a piece of nylon string. It is being clamped between the wood and the wheel. I think it should work as I couldn’t pull the string when it is clamped. However I doubt the string durability. Anyway, let’s see how long it would last.  Completion date: January 12, 2019 Version 2: So... one of the wood pieces broke during wheeling (probably within a week). It was a really bad design and I really shouldn't have extended this bad design in the last fix.  This time, I am using the spare wheels I have at home (

My first post

So, I have decided to start a blog on my creations.  I feel I should write a bit here.   Why? Since teenager, I secretly wished I could be an inventor.  My first ever worked invention, to my memory, was a wearable band for the hand, for me to put colored pen/pencil/highlighter on the back of my hand. I was in university then.  Through all these years working, I still worked through some of the ideas to a product. It would be great to show these ideas to others while doing documentation or log some sort, like an invention journal (ha ha).  What? They are not all inventions, perhaps most of them are creations, really.  Some maybe just ideas, some maybe just outstanding problems I need to rethink and come back on later.  When? I shall post...When I have new ideas, or a new creation, or maybe when I have a new tool.  Who am I? I am working in an information technology service and solution provider company in Hong Kong.  I believe in creativity, where Imagination and
