Holder for slippers

Completion date: June 2018

Sometimes my slippers fell down from the shoe rack and got caught at the back against the wall.  It's quite troublesome to get them back.  I need to do something to get my slippers in no time.

There are a number of products out for the slipper storage: pockets that hang behind the door, and individual slipper racks (adhesive to stick to wall). I didn't want neither of those. Pockets-behind-the-door are way up high to nose level, it might smell... and neither do I have space to house these individual slipper racks on the wall.

I just need to put them up, where the shoe boxes are...

I cut 2 slits on a shoe box. I have a long hard round straw (you can also cut up a ballon holder stick). Then I cut up a piece of nylon ribbon (from cake shop).

So here was what I did:

  1. Threaded the ribbon through the hard straw
  2. With the hanging straw outside of shoe box, put the ends of the ribbon into the slits
  3. Then tied the ribbon between the 2 slits at the inside of shoe box.

The advantage of using a shoebox is that you can rearrange the shoeboxes to set slippers lower or higher. However, you must have something inside the shoebox to weight it down.

Gear investigation: Banbao Lego crane

Completion date: May 16, 2020 1. Gear ratio: 8:24:40. The bottom wheel cranking the string at speed (8/24)*(24/40)=0.2x speed of the motor. 2. The top two wheels looks like pulley system to me, but I am not sure about the spinning speed of the top wheels, the first top wheel is slower than the bottom wheeler, that I observed. 3. The beginning of the bottom wheeling action is pulling less string because the circumference is small (less string winded).  So it pulls the string faster gradually as more string is added to the circumference. 4. Note I added the rewind crank on the other side of the motor. This is the final instruction of the Banbao booklet. All the builds have been fun for me, I got to know more about gears now (though still primitive). My thoughts towards the gear mechanism is that it is not as efficient as I thought it would be. - requires many gears to do 1 simple thing - gear design has to match the many requirements of the space, dist...
